A Smarter Feature Phone with Cloud Apps
HMD has introduced the HMD Touch 4G, a hybrid device that bridges the gap between traditional feature phones and smartphones. This new model is reminiscent of the Nokia Asha series, offering smart capabilities through browser-based cloud apps.
Key Features:
- Operating System: The Touch 4G operates on a custom lightweight real-time operating system known as RTOS Touch. This allows users to access a variety of cloud-hosted applications while preserves the battery very well.
- Messaging: The device comes with the Express Chat app, enabling users to send text, voice, and image messages. Users can also chat with those on Android and iOS platforms if they have the app installed.
- Display & Camera: It features a 3.2-inch LCD display with a resolution of 320×240 pixels. For photography, there’s a 2MP rear camera with an LED flash and a 0.3MP front camera.
- Performance: Powered by a Unisoc T127 chipset and 64MB of RAM, it includes 128MB of internal storage, expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.
- Battery & Connectivity: The phone has a 1,950 mAh battery that charges through a USB-C port. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi (802.11n), Bluetooth 5.0, and it also functions as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.
Design and Availability
The HMD Touch 4G is available in Cyan and Dark Blue color variants, priced at approximately $45. Currently, it’s exclusive to the Indian market and is ready for shipping through HMD India.
Its compact design includes IP52 ingress protection and additional features like a 3.5mm headphone jack and FM radio support.
Conclusion
The HMD Touch 4G represents a unique blend of traditional feature phone functionality with modern cloud capabilities, making it an interesting choice for users looking for a simple yet smarter mobile experience.
Also this phone seems to align a bit with the fashion for minimalist phones that were released this year. Not bad, but it seems a bit in a niche. I would also like something more compact in my pockets when I go out by bike through the forest for example, but obviously I also want a better camera to capture some landscapes.
